The Kossuth Street Reformed Church

In 1896, the presbytery of the Győr Reformed Parish, which goes back 450 years, decided to build a new one instead of its old church in Újváros. The designer was Károly Csányi, an architect born in Győr, known primarily as an art historian and museologist. At the request of the parish, the Reformed church in Brasov was considered a model to be followed, but the new church is still a characterful, sovereign work, which testifies to the designer's affection for medieval architecture. The construction of the church, built from July 1905 to April 1906, was led by Lajos Káldy, a member of the renowned Győr architectural family. The neo-Gothic pulpit and the baptismal font are the pieces of the church's interior with the greatest artistic value, and the bells were made in the famous Seltenhofer workshop in Sopron. The Reformed church, which has been renovated several times since then, is still one of the defining elements of the image of Kossuth Street.
