Balaton was founded in 1979 by Mihály Víg and Károly Hunyadi. The band gave its first concert together with the URH Orchestra in 1980, in the courtyard of the Gyula Kulich Square Psychiatric Institute. After that, Balaton became an important player on the Hungarian underground scene, at one time it cooperated closely with the band Európa Kiadó and the Trabant, and after longer or shorter breaks and member changes, it is still operating today.
Although the band's songs could not appear on official publications in the 1980s, they spread on copied cassettes in the country, nevertheless they became underground hits. Bahia Records has released their cassettes and CDs since the 90s.
Mihály Víg composed film scores for the films of János Xantus, András Szirtes, Ildikó Szabó, Péter Sziámi Müller and Béla Tarr. He played the main role in Béla Tarr's film Sátántango (1994). He was nominated for a European Film Award for the music of the film The Turin Horse (2011). He also appears in Gábor Fabricius's award-winning film Abolish Frank (2021). In 2022, a portrait film was made about his life and work under the title Ott a tórony.
recently published Their CD containing Ady's poems. They are performing at our concert for the first time in 20 years. The guest will be Napilinszky, made up of Győr artists.
