Kreszta House
The Kreszta House is located in the immediate vicinity of the historical city center, opposite the beautiful baroque Ark of The Conant statue on Gutenberg Square, on the corner of Apáca Street. The house of medieval origin has a narrow, high facade and a cylindrically bulging corners of a closed, bastion-like building. It got its name from the owner of the spice and general store operating here at the turn of the century. The interesting thing about the house, which has a medieval atmosphere and overlooks the three streets, is that in 1703 it was already two-story, and its steep mansard attic — where its owner operated a rope-making workshop — was subsequently created. The basement of the building contains the remains of the 17th-18th centuries. The property acquired its present-day classicist character during a 19th century renovation.
After the offering of ceramic artist Margit Kovács, in 1974, the artist's permanent exhibition was placed on the floor and attic of the building, which was further expanded in 1982 with the significant deposit material of the Margit Kovács collection in Szentendre. The permanent exhibition is renovated from 2022 and welcomes visitors.
